Sleep Cycle and Apple Watch Integration

You can now access the Sleep Cycle app through your Apple Watch. Please see below for the most frequently asked questions from our Apple Watch users.

Is the Apple Watch stand alone?
Yes. You don’t need to engage with your phone at all, as you go to bed and wake up with the Watch. You simply set the alarm on your watch and you're good to go! Please note, settings such as the wake-up window for your alarm, are adjusted from your iPhone.

The Watch analyzes your sleep during the night, wakes you up at the time you’ve set and then transfers the analysis to your phone. You can view the night’s analysis on your phone, whenever it suits you.

Does the Watch sleep analysis transfer to my phone?
Yes. Isn’t it lovely? Just use your Watch as you sleep and the sleep analysis shifts to your phone, when you wake up. Sometimes, it may take a while, but you’ll be notified when it’s done.

Alarm modes on the Watch app
The "No alarm, only sleep analysis" option is not available on the Watch at this point in time due to restrictions within the Watch OS. But if this changes, we will hopefully be able to implement this as well.

Do you record snoring or other sounds when using the Watch?
When using the Watch app, we will not be able to detect snoring as we analyze your sleep via movements, detected via the accelerometer in the watch. If you want to detect snoring and other sounds, you will have to stick to the app in your iPhone app for now.

Auto-sleep tracker and Apple Watch
As the name suggests, this feature automatically will track your sleep when you fall asleep with the Apple Watch. You’ll still need to activate the alarm, if you want to be woken up at a certain time. However, the auto-sleep tracker will ensure that your sleep is tracked and analysis is still available on your phone - even when you’ve forgotten to activate the app.

What’s the battery drain then?
Not much. 10-15%, depending on what else is going on in your Watch during the night.

Why no complication?
So far, we’ve not got a strong enough case for it. However, the development of Sleep Cycle’s features for Apple Watch will continue and a solid complication is part of it.

What's the required Watch OS version?
As the WatchOS matures and we’re using its features to its fullest, at some point devices of a certain age will struggle to keep up. So for now, the Watch OS 7.1 is required.

How to install the Sleep Cycle watch app on your Apple Watch:
On your Watch app on your iPhone, open the tab ‘My Watch’, now, scroll all the way down to find the available apps that you can install. From here you will be able to install Sleep Cycle, once done, click on “Sleep Cycle” and make sure you have enabled the toggle “Show app on Apple Watch” and tada, you should now have the Sleep Cycle watch app available on your Apple Watch!

I’ve got ideas on features I’d like to see on the Watch. How can I share them with the folks at Sleep Cycle?

We’d love to hear from you. Reach out to us here at support@sleepcycle.com - the Watch is strong in this one.
